Never been a fan of recruiting rankings.  Is it hard to guess that Florida, Texas and Alabama will have top 10 classes this year?

So, here’s my annual look at how the numbers didn’t add up for everyone:

Boise State (finished No. 4 in the AP poll): Last four recruiting classes were ranked 73, 78, 57 and 64.

TCU (6th in final poll): Last four classes ranked 63, 73, 73 and 114.

Iowa (7th in final poll): Last four classes ranked 8, 40, 37 and 44.

Cincinnati (8th in final poll): Last four classes ranked 70, 70, 80 and 51.

Then, of course, there’s Michigan, which checked in at 5-7 this year. The Wolverines’ last four classes were ranked 2, 9, 10 and 6.

The rankings are fun to look at and fun to talk about — but believing they are accurate predictors of anything but the obvious (Texas, Alabama and USC are going to be good) isn’t a great bet.
